Texas Hawthorn

Texas hawthorn is found in rich bottomlands and river bottoms in the Gulf Prairies and Marshes and in rich sandy clay loams of the Post Oak Savannah and Rio Grande Plains. It flowers in the spring when the leaves are half grown. Its scarlet, one-inch fruit resembles little red apples and is a favorite of wildlife. The twigs are often armed with 1- to 3-inch thorns.
