Baretta
Helietta parvifolia
Rutaceae
Baretta is a slender evergreen tree that in Texas is found only in Starr County in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. It blooms with tiny, greenish- white flowers in terminal clusters from March to May, with small, dry, winged fruit ripening from September to October. The resinous leaves emit a pungent, not unpleasant odor when crushed. The bark flakes off, showing lighter wood underneath.
