Georgia Holly is closely related to Possum Haw, I. decidua. It is an understory tree that grows on acid sands and sandy loams along stream banks in east Texas. Although it can grow as tall as 25 ft., it is usually 6 to 12 ft. The red, persistent fruits are borne on one and a half inch stalks and are usually solitary.
