Murray Plum
Prunus murrayana

Rosaceae

Murray plum is so rare that since its discovery in the Davis Mountains in 1928, no one has seen it with fruit. It grows in far west Texas primarily in igneous soil, but also on limestone. It normally occurs in thickets, but can be a single-trunked tree 12 to 15 ft. tall, as are a stand in the Glass Mountains. In the Del Norte Mountains it is a thicket-forming shrub of 3 to 6 feet tall. It is endemic to the Trans-Pecos.
