Ampelopsis cordata

Vitaceae

As its name indicates, heartleaf pepper vine has simple heart-shaped leaves that closely resemble some species of grape. It is a high-climbing woody vine that attaches with tendrils, found in stream bottom woods, roadsides, and rich woodlands from Southeast and East Texas to the Edwards Plateau. The fruits are grape-like, turning from orange-pink to turquoise-blue as they mature, and are eaten by several species of birds. Pepper vines are extremely adaptable to different soils and light conditions, except very dry sites.
