| Buckwheat Vine, American Buckwheat Vine, Ladies' Eardrops, Eardrop Vine Brunnichia ovata (B. cirrhosa) Polygonaceae Buckwheat vine is a high climbing vine that grows in stream bottom woods in East Texas and into the eastern part of North Central Texas. From there it ranges east to Georgia and north to Missouri and South Carolina. The stems are green to reddish brown and climb by tendrils. The greenish or greenish-yellow flowers are borne in terminal panicles, and the fruit is a pink, showy calyx that resembles ear pendants, from which its common name "ladies' eardrops" derives.
