Warnock Condalia, Javalina Bush
Condalia warnockii var. warnockii

Rhamnaceae

Warnock condalia is a very thorny, densely-branched, compact shrub with small spatulate leaves. The ends of the branchlets are thorn-tipped, so it provides an impenetrable security barrier and excellent shelter and food source for birds. The mature fruit is a reddish-black and edible drupe, 1/4 inch in diameter. It grows in desert habitats in the Trans-Pecos to the Western Edwards Plateau and south to Mexico. The Trans-Pecos plants are var. warnockii.
