| Spiny Greasebush Glossopetalon spinescens var. spinescens (Forsellesia spinescens) Celastraceae Spiny greasebush is found infrequently in limstone mountains and canyons in the Trans-Pecos, but is more widespread in Oklahoma, west to Arizona and into Mexico. A small, intricately branched shrub that grows to about 3 feet, its stiff, angled branches are green when young, aging to gray or brown with the bark exfoliating in thin strips. They have weak spines at the tips. Spiny greasebush can be recognized most easily by its small leaves and white flowers as well as by its green twigs.
