Isocoma pluriflora (I. wrightii, Haplopappus heterophyllus)

Asteraceae (Compositae)

In the Trans-Pecos, jimmyweed is common in salty, alkaline or gypseous soils on dry hills and plains up to 6,000 feet. It is a shrub or subshrub with many slender upright stems that are topped with clusters of yellow flowers from June to September. Jimmyweed can be a weed in roadsides near irrigated areas or in overgrazed pastures. It is poisonous to livestock, causing "trembles", which can be passed through the milk to humans.
