Coahuila Scrub Oak
Quercus intricata

Fagaceae

Coahuila scrub oak occurs on dry, rocky slopes at 4500 to 6500 feet of elevation in the Chisos Mountains of West Texas and in Northern Mexico. It is a thicket-forming, very showy dwarf evergreen oak whose leaves may persist through several seasons. The leaves are lustrous above, felty beneath, very thick and hard, having very coarsely revolute margins. The stiff, grey or fuzzy yellow twigs form intricately-branched small shrubs.
