American Silverbells, American Snowbell, Spring Orange
Styrax americanus

Symplocacea

American silverbells prefers the rich moist soils along the edges of streams and swamps of East Texas, east to Florida and Virginia, north to Missouri and Illinois. It is a widely-branched, wispy, rounded shrub which bears fragrant racemes of lovely white bell-shaped flowers. As this plant requires a cool, acid, moist root run and tolerates poor drainage, it should perform well in the Houston area. It has been in cultivation since 1765.
